This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required to repair and maintain the mechanical systems and components of cars, motorcycles and heavy vehicles. It is suitable for entry into the automotive service and repair industry.

Entry requirements for the Qualification

It is recommended that students should be aged 16 years or older or have completed year 12, however for RPL assessment the applicant need to provide several years of experience.

Course Content

To be awarded the Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology, competency must be achieved in thirty six  (36 ) units of competency.

  • three  (3 ) core units of competency
  • thirty three  (33 ) elective units of competency, as specified below.
  • a minimum of twenty seven  (27 ) elective units of competency from Group A
  • a maximum of six  (6 ) elective units of competency from Group B, drawn from any combination of:
  • units not already chosen from Group A
  • relevant units available in this Training Package, other endorsed Training Packages and accredited courses, where those units are aligned to Certificate II, III and IV qualifications
  • a maximum of eighteen  (18 ) elective units may be selected from units aligned to Certificate II qualifications
  • a maximum of two  (2 ) elective units may be selected from units aligned to Certificate IV qualifications.
